Welcome to the Jeremy Banx home page.

This is a selection of my work from the last twenty years or so. Most of these cartoons have been published in magazines, newspapers and comics both in the UK and abroad, while others are previously unpublished and being seen for the first time on the web.

I will be updating and improving this site at regular intervals with old stuff from the archives and brand new stuff as soon as I create it.

I'll also be selling books and other merchandise through the online shop so put this site in your bookmarks and come back for many return visits.

'The Many Deaths of Norman Spittal'
Norman Spittal is a tortured soul, an insignificant non-entity more sinned against than sinning. He first appeared in 'Duck Soup'in the mid-eighties, then in 1995 I published his adventures in book form. Last year, with Bob Godfrey Films, we finished work on 156 short animated 'Normans'. These are being shown on MTV and the Paramount Comedy Channel.

Financial Times
For the past fourteen years I've been the daily pocket cartoonist for the Financial Times. These cartoons were first seen in the pages of the FT over the last year or so. This section will be updated regularly.

New!Mister Bignose
These strips first appeared in the pages of 'Oink!' in the mid-eighties. I would give myself a maximum of ten minutes to come up with an idea then draw it up. Sometimes it showed. Here are some of my favourites. And yes, Mister Bignose does look a lot like Norman Spittal.

Singles Gags
I started out, in the early eighties, sending cartoons 'on spec' to magazines and newspapers. After many rejections, I finally got lucky and sold my first cartoons to 'She' magazine. Fairly soon I was appearing regularly in Punch and Private Eye. These drawings all evolved from that period.

More Singles Gags
More gags from the archives, originally published in Punch and Private Eye. Includes "I sold my trousers to the devil" and "Notice how the eyes follow you round the room."

Stupid Pirates
We've just moved from Central London to Maritime Greenwich, home to the Royal Observatory, Maritime Museum, Naval College and the Meridian. These drawings are inspired by the nautical history of the area. Anyway, I just like pirates. Ahoy.

'Turkeys of Doom'
Every year, I draw a Christmas card for friends and family using turkeys for inspiration. Here's a collection of turkey related gags based on those cards. These drawings are unpublished and appear in the public domain for the first time.

'Running Man'
These drawings appear every month in 'Venture' magazine. I really enjoy this job as the brief is so restrictive. It's just a man at a desk and it has to be funny. That's it. This section will be updated regularly.

Cecil
The Daily Express asked me to do a 'funny animal' type cartoon strip. The result was Cecil the Coypu. Coypus are huge rats the size of Bull Terriers. I had seen one, lying dead on the side of a Suffolk country road and was suitably impressed. Cecil ran for a couple of years in the mid-eighties. Here are my favourite Cecils from that period.

'Cubes'
This idea was prompted by the huge craze for 'Rubik Cubes' in the early eighties. This collection was published as a 98 page cartoon book by Virgin Books. I've included some of the best drawings in this section.
